The Georgia Cattlemen's Association Annual Convention was held in conjunction with the Georgia Beef Expo at the Georgia National Fairgrounds, Perry, Georgia. Big trade show, several beef breeds on display with live cattle and a big Commercial Heifer Sale that featured a Purebred Angus Division, Purebred Hereford Division, Purebred Simmental Division and then the big Commercial Heifer Sale of Cow/Calf Pairs, Bred Heifers and Open Heifers. Heifers were sold in Pens of 3 and Pens of 2. Doug Williams, Mocksville, N.C, judged the heifers on Thursday and then the auction was on Friday, April 1 at noon.

Champion Pen of 3 Cow/Calf. Consigned by Honeywood Farms, Barnesville, Ga. Sold for $1,900 to Bo Wilson, Marietta, Ga.

Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Cow/Calf. Consigned by Honeywood Farms, Barnesville, Ga. Sold for $1,950 to Stuart Griffin, Bainbridge, Ga.

Champion Pen of 2 Cow/Calf. Consigned by Honeywood Farrms, Barnesvill, Ga. Sold for $1,700 to Parrish Akins, Nashville, Ga.

Champion Pen of 3 Bred Heifers. Consigned by Blackwater Cattle Co., Lake Park, Ga. Sold for $1,850 to John Brownlee, Tifton, Ga.

Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Bred Heifers. Consigned by Blackwater Cattle Co., Lake Park, Ga. Sold for $1,800 to Mike McHugh, Orrville, Ga.

Champion Pen of 2 Bred Heifers. Consigned by Rolling Acres Farm, Winder, Ga. Sold for $2,200 to Matt Crews, Wauchula, Fla.

Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Open Heifers. Consigned by Brian Lardiere, Abbeville, S.C. Sold for $1,075 to Ronnie Bozard, St. Matthews, S.C.

Champion Pen of 2 Open Heifers. Consigned by Mike Crowder, Griffin, Ga. Sold for $950 to Derrick Irby, Americus, Ga.

Reserve Champion Pen of 2 Open Heifers. Consigned by Brian Lardiere, Abbeville, S.C Sold for $900 to Derrick Irby, Americus, Ga.

Thirteen different commercial bred heifers sold for $1,800 or more. Cow/calf pairs were really strong with a top of $1,950 and bottom of $1,500.

Big crowd and good prices all day on the auction that grossed $242, 800.

Purebred Summary

$3,200 -- Lot 24 Angus Bred Heifer. Daughter of SAV Bismarck 5682 from the Emblynette cow family and bred to SAV Pioneer. Consignor was Rolling Acres Farm, Winder, Ga. Buyer was Acres Away Farm, Hampton, Ga.

$3,000 -- Lot 23 Angus Bred Heifer. Flushmate sister to the Lot 24 top selling heifer sired by Bismarck and bred to Pioneer. Consignor was Rolling Acres Farm, Winder, Ga. Buyer was Acres Away Farm, Hampton, Ga.

$2,600 -- Lot 29 Horned Hereford Bull. Son of PK L1 Domino 6656. Consignor was Little Springs Farm,       Covington, Ga. Buyer was James Buffaloe, Americus, Ga.
