SALE REPORT
GENETRUST AT CHIMNEY ROCK SALE HELD OCTOBER 31 - NOVEMBER 1

October 31-November 1, 2014
Concord, Ark.

A capacity crowd met one of the most complete offerings of Brangus genetics in history with great enthusiasm, as Bill and Gail Davis hosted their 8th annual two-day event where attendees have come to expect their combination of outstanding cattle and one of a kind hospitality. A record 203 registered buyers from 20 states and Mexico eagerly absorbed the GENETRUST BRANGUS offering, with cattle selling from Virginia to Nevada and numerous points in between.

Kicking off the weekend festivities Friday night in the Registered Female portion of the offering as Lot 1 was the breed leading proven herd sire, CRC Landau 263X2, who in just three years of production, exhibits an ability to sire offspring with consistency that is unmatched by any other sire group currently in service. Earning the name Mr. Consistency, 2/3rd interest and full possession in Landau offered by Chimney Rock Cattle Co., Suhn Cattle Co., Vorel Farms and Cold Creek Ranch and was purchased by Ray and Helen Johnston of Johnston Farms, Letohatchee, Ala., for $30,000. Longtime Brangus breeder Williams Ranching Co. of Floresville, Texas, made their presence known shortly thereafter selecting two of the top donors in the offering at $21,000 each. Clayton and Jeff Williams along with their longtime consultant Gary Bruns selected Lot 22, MS DMR 607L11 302W11 offered by Draggin' M Ranch as well as Lot 87, SF Miss Angelo 909U4 from Schmidt Farms and Suhn Cattle Co., to highlight their program moving forward. These females stem back to two of the great female makers of the 21st century and offered a unique combination of growth and maternal genetics along with a proven track record of production to build around.

When the gavel dropped for the final time on Friday night, a total of 90 registered female lots averaged $8,572. Gonzalo Ochoa of Nogales, Ariz., was the volume buyer of registered females with Ruben Millan and Enrique Medina, both of Mexico, adding several lots of new GENETRUST genetics to their respective programs as well.

The bull sale on Saturday was met with equal exuberance as the record setting cattle market was reflected in bull demand as producers readily sought to improve their genetic base. Leading off the outstanding set of bulls was the calving ease feature in Lot 232, DMR Coronado 415A11, from Draggin' M Ranch. This herd sire prospect combined his tremendous substance with calving ease potential, top end ratios and a maternal package and pedigree that was second to none. Seeing the value and potential he possessed, Garry Clem Brangus of Jacksonville, Texas, and Randy Nugent of Cross N Farm, Olla, La., teamed up to own interest and full possession in this exciting sire at $42,000, to top the weekend's event. No stranger to quality Brangus cattle, Tom Rew of Hayman's 711 Ranch of Kenansville, Fla., made lot 260 the second high selling individual of the day at $26,000. DMR Guardian 594A19 headlined an outstanding set of flush mates, leading the charge with his high octane performance and EPD rankings in the top two percent for WW, three percent for YW & SC and 30 percent for IMF & REA. Following closely behind as Lot 158, CB Hombre 63A from Cavender Brangus presented a unique combination of calving ease, growth, muscle and maternal traits making his EPD package one that purebred and commercial producers alike will gravitate toward to cover all the bases. Half interest and full possession in this functional, moderate framed, right for the times individual was selected by the partnership of Suhn Cattle Co of Eureka, Kansas, Vorel Farms of Luther, Okla., and Jackson's Double J Brangus of Gentry, Ark., for $22,000 to highlight their outfits.

When the final gavel dropped on this power packed set of bulls, 115 Brangus and UltraBlack bulls averaged $7,644. Volume bull buyer for the day was Steve Ledwell of Texarkana, Texas.

Following the bull offering was a tremendous set of commercial females from GENETRUST partners and customers. Leading the way was an outstanding set of 2-year-old fall calving pairs from Jimmy and Jason Sanders of Marshall, Ark. Sired by GENETRUST bulls, the top set of five pair commanded $4,500 from longtime GENETRUST customer, Tony Westbrooks of Olla, La. The top selling lot of bred heifers also came from the Sanders Ranch where six head of heavy bred heifers went to Roy Reaves of Russellville, Ark., for $3,600. An outstanding set of open heifers sired by GENETRUST bulls from Frank Johnston of Letohatchee, Ala., was highlighted by a group of five selected by Draggin' M Ranch, El Dorado, Ark., for $2,150. At the end of the day, 35 pair averaged $4,129, 172 bred heifers averaged $2,606, and 64 open heifers averaged $1,977, with Chris Van Tyle of LaCygne, Kansas the volume commercial buyer.
