Water is very scarce in this drought. Trying this setup to try to keep what we have clean and useable. Going to turn a breeding group of 25 heifers into this pasture in a day or two.

    A good day.

Appears to me the attachment is a vibratory plate tamper adapted to drive fence posts.

Looks like you got a nice rain. Still powder dry here. Might get a little tomorrow, fingers crossed

    Cattle Vaccines/mRNA

Looking forward to the future with the mRNA vaccines.

    Foot rot

We used to vaccinate our bulls. We didn’t find that the vaccine did a particularly good job of prevention, but it did seem to make it easier to treat.

Post your Best Cheapskate Stories Here!

When I was in my early 20’s 3 quarters of land came up for sale bordering the family ranch. The asking price was $27,000. Seemed like a lot to me at the time. There was oil lease revenue of $1,200 per year. It was covered in trees and all I could think of (I was a cat skinner at the time) was...

This pair is only interested in digging the oats up from where I fed during calving. They have churned up a lot of the area now. Bears do make me nervous, but they seem to either be calf killers or they aren’t..

    First branding done

Our community has far less people in it than it used to as small outfits get taken up by bigger ones. So now you’d have to recruit a good percentage of wrestlers from town. I quit the rope and drag (and branding altogether) a few years ago. Started turning into a spectator sport, the folks on...

    Case 495 Struggling

Sure sounds like fuel filters. I wouldn’t think beyond that yet if it was me, but others might know of common issues with this model.

    Dehorning questions

I’ve never worried about the bleeding and have never lost one to it.

Probably 200 feet. Or I could use a generator and a longish cord to allow the generator to stay far enough back as to be substantially quieter than the propane.

    Ivermectin wormer pour on

Well, it works well for ticks and lice October to May lol. After that they are on their own so I can’t say. But based on how they seem to use it I don’t see why it wouldn’t.

    Ivermectin wormer pour on

I mix Pounce (permethrin) with diesel in one of these to keep the lice, ticks etc. at bay for the part of the year the cows are at home. Once out on the range they use the fly swatter they were born with. But we don’t get flies up here like folks down south do.

    First branding done

I branded my yearlings the other day (fresh brands in that video I posted) and was thinking about electric irons. But I’d be exchanging the roar of propane for the roar of a generator. I guess with a good long cord that could be mitigated.
