My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

One thing, I don’t understand is how apathetic association folk can be. They have a customer knocking on their door and you are being turned away.

My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

At this point, I am a bit disgusted by the OP. Name names or tell us your issue got resolved. There are too many bad actors in the cattle business that need to be run out of town.

    When buying registered cattle

A few years ago, we discovered that the Hereford association was selling the buyers list of who bought registered cattle. It’s no fun spending decades getting a customer to buy Hereford bulls and then having the new fieldman steal your customers.

My scenario, goes back to my Bulls thread

I agree on letting us know who the breeder is and how much you spent on the bull. If the bull was bought at auction, I would also talk with the auctioneer and ring men as well. That being said sadly I don’t hold out much hope. I am finding the upstanding American farmer a relic of the past...

    Pasture Pet Peeves

Be glad they are 1/2 acre lots. We have that white trash with money on plots up to 40 acres. Out here in California we have a lot of restrictions on subdividing parcels. So what is some one will build a mansion on a large lot and then not do any landscaping. For someone who wants to live the...

    Pasture Pet Peeves

On the balance, I think a fence out system is preferable to a fence in rule. I had an uncle that was so petty that he built a fence 40 feet on his side to keep the neighbor from being able to use their own property.

    Fools rush in

Over on Facebook, there was a post about how nice people are in registered Hereford business. I am thinking they must have not been in the game very long to talk that way. For those who have been around registered cattle of any breed, we are well aware of shady dealings. The thing to remember...

    The End of EPDs?

Wh The problem is that we all don't operate in the same environment. A cow that does well in a low input environment will blow up on good feed and a cow that is accustomed to living high on the hog will starve in the desert.

Red angus or red baldie heifers?

Here are some pictures of some F1 Barzona x Red angus calves. Adds heat tolerance and hybrid vigor without adding ear. Unfortunately, the Barzona is all but a dead breed. I am looking at other alternative breeds that gain heat tolerance from African genetics rather than Indian.

She looks like Bonsma's example of what not to breed.

    The End of EPDs?

I have a good friend runs several hundred purebred cows, collects all the data, has a grow safe on his place. He told me that over the past twenty years the EPD's have gone up but the weaning weights have stayed the same. I personally don't use EPD's because it is simply impossible to have an...

Update on HPAI Detection in Kansas, Texas Dairy Herds

The most astute observation, I heard about the avian flu was that it dropped the cattle futures. I wonder who was short cattle at the time of the announcement.

    What to do?

The sad thing is that I wouldn't be inclined to lease a place like that. What inevitably happens is you fix a place up, get things straightened out and then one of the owner's sixty years old spoilt brats gets jealous and get's you booted off and your name run through the dirt. I am done with...

    Timed AI most recent trends?

Gnrh basically pops any follicles that have started to develop and creates a corpus luteum. If the time of the cycle is right an egg would be released for timed breeding. PG, lutalyse causes the CL to regress bringing about heat in a few days. A Cidr provides progesterone in place of a cl so...

    Timed AI most recent trends?

On rebreeds, you are stuck breeding off of an observed heat because the that’s to the only way to ensure that the cow is open. There is a protocol to put cidr’s in two weeks after the first service to line things back up for round two.

Red angus or red baldie heifers?

For a commercial herd the benefits of cross breeding are too great to ignore. I have had the idea to do a three breed maternal rotation cross using Hereford, Red Angus and Beefmaster AI, then cleaning up with a terminal continental bull. I would sort the cows based on phenotype to ensure that...

    Need working facility

If you have to use a hot shot you are doing things too fast. First it is important to get in the right frame of mind. Turn off the Chris Ledoux and put on some Conway Twitty : Lay you down, Slow hand you've never been this far before.... A half dozen panels and a few flakes of hay is that is...
