    Bred heifers starting to calve!

I bought ten bred heifers and had my first calf this week. A 66 pound Homestead calf out of a Resource daughter. She is the first heifer pictured. The others are heifer that could calve any day and the calf is a spring born Rampage daughter.

    Blast away

Critique this bull. He is a three year old son of Harvester out of a Density cow. He had solid epds until I did DNA test and they plummeted. His calves are holding their own but the main reason I bought him was because I wanted some replacement females out of him.

    Collection worthy?

What are your thoughts on this bull? We are considering having him collected.

    SAV Resource

Resource is definitely the real deal. I bred cows to Resource and Rampage expecting the Rampage to be the more impressive calves. I was wrong. Resource has been the most consistent bull I’ve used. His calves stand out. The calf pictured is 10 weeks old. I’m not sure what he weighs but he is one...

    Fertility

I need someone to explain the correlation between scrotal circumference and heifer fertility. I have been analyzing all the genomics enhanced epds I’ve had done on my bull calves and I have noticed the bulls with the best hp also have the worst sc epds. I also have some bulls that have great sc...

    Genomics enhanced epds

Just got some of my epds updated today. This sire prospect should please most people. Not extreme in any area but pretty solid in most areas. https://postimg.cc/gallery/1pfv52oze/

    Value of Genomics

Two years ago I went bull shopping. I wanted a cleanup bull that would improve my herd by giving me some good replacement females and improve the epds of my herd. I located a yearling bull that had the phenotype that I was looking for and a really nice epd profile so I took him home. He was an...

    Resource x EXT

Resource x EXT This bull call was extremely large at birth. I sent DNA off on the calf and am anxious to see what his bw and ced comes back as. His EXT Dam doesn’t usually throw calve anywhere close to his birth weight and is an excellent cow with a superb udder. The combination should be a...

    Premature

I have a nine year old cow that started losing weight a few months ago. She looks sickly and alway seems to be drooling. A couple nights ago she had a premature calf. I’m not sure how early it is but it weighed 29 pounds. Any ideas what is going on?

    Birth weights

Has there been any research done about environmental affects on birth weights? I have had this group of cows for a while and most years my calves range from 60-85 pounds. This year I have had a 96, 97, and 113 pound calf. They have never had calves anywhere close to these weights. The 96 and 97...

    Planning for next breeding season.

I would really like to get some replacement heifers or a herd sire prospect out of this cow. She is an excellent cow but does have her faults. I need to add some power to her. She has an excellent udder and is very fertile. And ideas would be appreciated.
