    Looking For Hay

They guy I'm getting it from is going as far as MS to get it. The price reflects the freight cost too. But that's the market this year. Spring is almost here.

Unrolling hay tip and question on older hay

For older hay rolls, try unrolling in the opposite direction of how it was baled so that you don't leave big swaths of hay as it unrolls.

    Looking For Hay

I got 2 rolls yesterday for $125 each. They are bringing them from LA an AR. So so hay and a bit loose. Probably not more than 850 pounds each.

    Looking For Hay

I'm starting to see hay prices drop a tiny bit. Perhaps it's the promise of spring, perhaps it's the fact that many ranchers culled their herds, or perhaps too many sellers sat on their inventory waiting for a sucker to buy at $150. I don't know, but tomorrow I'm getting a few rolls for $100...

    Bale Grazing

I unrolled this year about half and half. The wastage seems about the same but unrolling spreads it over a long windrow.

    Looking For Hay

If you are within a reasonable distance from Cooper TX and have round bales for sale, please PM. I need about 15 rolls to make it to the spring flush. Thanks.

Per acre land price in your area?

I'll cash out and got to Uruguay. Just kidding. I bought for 1.9K in 2016 and now people down the road are selling for 8K.

All good things must come to an end

My grass don't look that good in the spring. Why didn't you bale it?

    Baleage pictures

I just realized that baleage refers to fresh cut hay wrapped air tight, not hay bales. I apologize for posting about hay bales and asking questions. Did not mean to hi-jack the thread. From what I've read baleage has a limited shelf life. How long can you keep it before feeding. Is it a...

    Baleage pictures

If you're buying hay to store for winter, is it better to buy in spring (first cut) or wait to the end of summer? I know this year I would have saved at least 40% if I had bought in spring before the prices shot through the roof in TX due to the drought. However, I don't know if hay bought in...

    Baleage pictures

Two barns were on property when I bought it. The metal tin says "made in Japan." It's at least form the 60's

    Drought Observations

@TexasRancher which barn sale? I took mine to Paris, no tags, no brand. They just put a sticker on them and gave me a receipt. A couple of days later I received a check by mail.

    Foam filled post holes

    Are you in sand?

    Foam filled post holes

The depth of the hole depends on the type of terrain and climate. In south Texas where winters are mild and the ground doesn't retract like in the black prairie lands of NE TX and it's fairly rocky, you can get away with 30" to 36" holes for braces if you tamp the rocks back in good. We have...

    Foam filled post holes

At the other end of the fence is a hackberry twice as thick as this one on the picture that I used instead of an h-brace. Too much work to dig through the roots, too much work to chain saw, cut and burn the tree by the fence. That's what's unique.

    Foam filled post holes

I think I like fencing more than ranching.

The 8" Seymour with a 4' extension is great if you don't want to be digging the last foot on your knees.
