    'taming' a heifer

There is little more precious when that young heifer realizes you want to be her friend and finally lets you pet her and love on her. That being said, when she turns about two years old and still wants to sit in your lap while you are squatted working on a fence, it does get a little hard to...

    Keeping bull in

I built a small pen out of electric wire and kept my bull in it for about 4 days. When he came out he never got close to the fence again. He sured whined a lot, but never got close to it.

    Taking them in to casterate...

I always banded the bull calves, but if I bought larger ones I just took them to the vet. He only charged $6.00 and that made it well worth the trip in.

Pullin' strings from a round bale

I used to use those roofing knives, then a sharp pocket knife, but later learned to use scissors with about a three inch blade. They seemed to work very well because you didn't have to worry about cutting the hay.

    skunks

To check if the skunk is going or coming - put flour around the opening it uses and look at the direction of the footprints. To keep them out - put mothballs under the house.

    birds in my pole barn.eeerrrrr!!

Most anything like that will work for a while. When the birds realize the plastic creatures will not harm them they will usually ignore them. We have a grocery store here that put up giant owls on their roof, and now we just drive by and look at the birds roosting on the owl's heads.

    birds in my pole barn.eeerrrrr!!

If you can get it, try using Avitrol. It is not a poison. It works like LSD for birds. It causes them to become disoriented and they soon realize the area is not the place they want to hang out at.

    spiders

Princess, spiders are a good source of protein for your kittens! :) JO, the permethrin I get is labeled for many things, including spiders. That being said, I may have access to a stronger concentration than the over the counter chemical. I haven't checked the over the counter. Also, some...

    spiders

Use a spray like permethrin around the outside of your house and under your eaves. Permethrin has a short residual and is also designed to break down by the sun and heat after a short while. Do this as was stated be an earlier poster about once a month. Diazonon and Dursban are no longer...

    Getting varnish off bear claw

I thought bear claws were great big things you buy at the donut shop. They would taste pretty sad with finger nail polish on them. :)

Tips on keeping skeeters from biting you

In a very small glass of water mix 1 table spoon of apple cider vinegar and 1 table spoon honey. Do this 2 or 3 times a day. It works. These statements are not made from a doctor, so don't sue me. I'm just speaking from experience.

    JB Weld

If you are ever on I-30 between Sulphur Springs and Mt. Vernon in Texas you will drive by JBWelds house. His widow still lives there. It is a delight to look at, especially at night. You can tell it is their's because out in the pasture a good ways away from the house, but close to the...

    Rolling up Slick Wire???

It will take a lot of them, but I use the rollers that are made for extension cords. They work well for one man operations.

    One man loading

I may be missing something in this conversation, but I just use a 2 X 4 and put it in the slots in the fence behind the cattle. They will back up only until the 2 X 4 stops at the vertical braces. Then as they work forward just move the board up between the next braces.

    I need advice

My bull used to go through the fence, so I just built a pen about 30 foot square out of one strand of elelctric wire. Put him some hay and water in it. Then, before I tied it off, I put some cubes in it and called him in to eat the cubes, tied off the fence, plugged it in. Kept him in it...
