    Trenching with Subsoiler

I used a 90 HP FWD and a homemade subsoiler. I also used 3/4” PVC. It was cheaper than the black poly at the time.

    Trenching with Subsoiler

I put in around 1700’ with a subsoiler a few years back. 46HP is gonna be the limiting factor. Pull it once as deep as you can. Then pull it the second time as deep as you can. When you’re satisfied with the depth, attach the pipe (with a cap on it) to the bottom of the shank with really stout...

    Hydraulics issue

Yes. It’s something to do with the way the system works on the tractor I think. New filters, fluids, etc on regular basis and levels are good.

    Real Handy on the farm

Front end loader for sure. Battery powered impact a close second.

    Hydraulics issue

Machinery in question: John Deere 5510 Older 12’ International harrow Tractor will raise and lower harrow but only if you work the hydraulic lever on the tractor very, very slowly. If you push or pull the lever too fast it will lock down the harrow. If you are raising the harrow and pull the...

    Gravity wagon...no running gear

BF, I’d think it would be cheaper to rebuild or hunt a new running gear rather than tie up a good 16’ trailer. No?

    Durable Hay Rack Tires ?

I’m running 16 ply tires on my in-line hay trailer and my stock trailer. Has completely eliminated blow outs and broken belts for the last several years. Hard to swallow the costs (about $175/ea) but down time costs more.

    Air Compressor won’t stay running

Spark plug solved the problem. Guess I didn’t think of it because it was running smooth most of the time but only for 5-8 seconds. I thought it was starving for fuel. But it was the plug. Experience I won’t forget so I’ll know next time! Thanks to all of you for your help.

Tread depth and traction on M/T tires

I don’t know what kind of truck you have but 265s should be fine on most any full size truck. On 3/4 ton trucks most everyone around here are running at least 35s (305s) and a bunch of 37s (325s) on stock trucks. You shouldn’t have any undue stress on the front end or suspensions with a 265 or...

    Air Compressor won’t stay running

If it’s got one it ain’t readily visible. Line comes straight from tank to carb. Small filter in sediment bowl is good. End of line in tank has a built in type of filter but it’s clear as well. Gonna put a plug in it and go from there.

    Air Compressor won’t stay running

Float seems good but I’m no small engine mechanic. Need to check needle of spark plug doesn’t fix it. Sure hope it does. That would almost be too easy!

Keep on keeping on Brute. Can’t let it win!

    Air Compressor won’t stay running

Talked to a mechanic friend of mine and he suggested trying the spark plug as well. So with you, SmokinM and him, that’s 3 people. So that’s first on the list in the AM. It’s a cheap try. Will try ether or gas rag if that doesn’t work. Seems to run a little longer when it’s cold so maybe it is...

    Air Compressor won’t stay running

I’m about to show my ignorance but the only fuel filter I’m aware of is the one in the sediment bowl. Is there another one?

    Air Compressor won’t stay running

I’ve got an Ingersoll Rand wheelbarrow air compressor. About 3 years old. Has worked flawlessly from Day 1. Now all of a sudden it will crank up (purrs like a kitten sometimes, runs rough sometimes) run about 5-10 seconds, and switch off. Here’s what I’ve done. Drained gas and replaced...

    loss of power

Sounds like a fuel restriction somewhere. Couple of thoughts. Check that there’s not some plastic shavings or a piece of trash that is being sucked into a line between the tank and filter. Also check to see if the fuel pump happens to have a filter or filter element or something similar. Sounds...

    Safety Zone Calf Catcher

I follow your logic Fence, but this isn’t exactly designed for “ranchers”. It’s more for people who spend most of their cow working time alone and may or may not be a little older age wise. My neighbor for instance is about 60 and there’s no way he can do it on foot or off of a horse. So it’s...

    Safety Zone Calf Catcher

Neighbor has one. Works very well. We use his on unlevel ground but it’s not terribly unlevel. Just terraces here and there. Doesn’t work well around trees that’s for sure. It’s the ticket for tagging, banding, and doctoring calves. He modified his to work on a Kubota RTV. Around $2600 I think.

    Farm Truck

Thanks Brute. I already had the compressor and fuel tank. It had a couple of boxes on it when I bought it and I added another underbody box and the drawer box on the back and relocated the others, fixed some rivets, and painted the bed. Tinted the windows too bc it was hot inside without any. I...

    Farm Truck

My old 13 2500 Cummins is getting some age on it and has put in some hard miles. Just picked up this clean 3500 4x4 with the 6.0 gas and just got it set up like I wanted it for my “new” cow truck/work truck. I love my diesel but the upfront premium plus the maintenance costs are making them less...
