    Prepping for 1st pasture spray

Saw that Valentime's Day is approaching and that reminded me that my 1st herbicide application will be due shortly. Want to hook up the 3pt sprayer for calibration and look for leaks. Check and clean debris out of nozzle filters. Will visit local ag dealer to see if anything new has hit the...

    Hay test results

I'm able to store them inside and I feed my small herd at the end of the barn on fence line panels. I dole it out and dont refill until its gone. I'm not using near as much hay as I used to with a round bale in a ring. Pouring concrete at my feed line today and am going to set a couple of the...

    Hay test results

I switched to big squares this year. Still trying to get a good feel for what they compare to. They sure stack easier.

Making pasture from clear cut forest.

Earlier this year I had a dozer clear 2 acres that I sprigged with Ozark bermuda. Timed it just right and bermuda took off real well. A month ago had dozer back to clear appx 10 acres. Lots of burn piles. Neighbor is a firefighter. He's taking the logs to sell for firewood then burning the...

    What's this grass ?

Here's another patch with seed head that I've hit once with glyphosate. Will hit again in a few days then burn. When it's dead it goes up in a hot flash. I've got one patch big enough that I'd like to have volunteer fire dept come hit it for training newbys.

    What's this grass ?

That looks just like what I'm battling. I've heard it called Clump Grass or Love Grass. Terribly invasive. I spray it with glyphosate at least once then come back with a weed torch to burn it down to the dirt. Seems to work. Doing that this morning as a matter of fact.

    Glyphosate or not?

I spot sprayed glyphosate yesterday on clump grass/love grass as its the only this that will kill it. I'll probably have to hit it again in a week. Any bermuda that gets hit always seems to recover.

    Bermuda Sprig Grazing Wait Time

I sprigged another acre with Ozark two weeks ago. Already coming up. The first batch has been cut twice at nearly knee high. My girls are lined up on the other side of the fence just staring at it.

    Bermuda Sprig Grazing Wait Time

I tilled first, spread sprig then tilled it again. Went out in the middle and pulled from the middle of the stand and it broke off above ground like it would when cattle graze. Roots appear stable, but could certainly be deeper in a year. Hasn't spread yet with runners like typical bermuda...

    Bermuda Sprig Grazing Wait Time

The consensus seems to be to let it rest for a year. The girls have left notes on the fence asking to be let in, but I'll have to deny their request. Thanks for the responses.

    Bermuda Sprig Grazing Wait Time

Sprigged a couple acres with Ozark bermuda. Spread it off the back of a trailer with pitch fork, so it got spread pretty thick. It's been ideal growing conditions. Plenty of rain and hot. Sprigs have take off and are 8-10" tall now. Sprigs were put in June 24th. How long would you wait to let...

    Managing Ripgut Brome

Probably 2 acres of a 10 acre paddock and then 50% of that area.

    Managing Ripgut Brome

Afternoon all. Determined that I have an infestation of ripgut brome. Cattle won't touch it and it's become more voracious than other native pasture grasses. Looking for how others have managed it without removing the good...if possible.

Put me down as a pasture management prospect. I can't find diddly around here. Local extension office is a no-go.
