    Mostly Heifer calves

I loaned my brother a bull, every calf was a heifer until the bull was sold last year, he has gotten a couple of bull calves on this last round. We have 3 boys, my two brothers had all girls, five all together?

Love baldie babies and black ones too !

He might be perfect on Corrientes, he would put just enough ear on them.

    Beefmaster jersey cross

My wife has a belted cow that gives just as much milk, she gets a little thin but nothing like these jerseys, she’s a fast breeder too, usually breeds back a month after calving.

    Beefmaster jersey cross

My son is supposed to haul her where he lives and put them both on feed. These cows aren’t mine but I do care about them. I’m hoping he’s going to get them this weekend, or I’m going to catch them put them in a trap and feed them.

    Beefmaster jersey cross

I was thinking the same. She gets plenty hay, range meal and cubes from time to time, plus it’s greening out here fairly well, that picture especially, she doesn’t look good.

    Beefmaster jersey cross

I think so. My son is fixing to move her along with another one to the Leon county ranch, he said he was going to maybe put another calve on them. It was a way of life with us growing up to have nurse cows, but I can’t handle it anymore with my back.

    Beefmaster jersey cross

She had her second calf, bred to a white face beefmaster, the bull tested negative so we sold him. We were hoping for a heifer, but it’s a bull calf.

Calving can be so rewarding - and so gut wrenching!

I penned my wife’s belty up today, she just had it, I done that because of the cold weather on the way and what happened to Jeanne. I think it is a beefmaster calf, looking at the ears, it looks to be solid red.

Calving can be so rewarding - and so gut wrenching!

When me and grandpa partnered up in 1980, we lost a calf, I was upset about it, he told me when you got something your going to lose something, if you don’t have anything you don’t take the chance of losing. Our first grandchild was stillborn, it was horrible, it was heartbreaking to me and the...

    Little calf

We’ll move her late winter/early spring, it’s a spunky calf just a dink. We had one born like this on a different cow last spring, already bred when we bought her , the calf took off and grew very good.

    Little calf

We bought her from the sale born, I think our red angus bull bred her, this has got to be the smallest calf he has thrown. Nice tiger stripe cow, she has a good bag and is not old.

    Doubling up

I went for years without ever having a set of twins, then I had 3 sets over the last 10 years. It’s exciting to see but I don’t like having twins, the last two were raising their calves good, then all of a sudden the calves died on both cows. Cows were in good shape but it happened over night?

How long before calving does the udder start filling with milk?

Heifers start months early. I’ve seen older cows bag up overnight.
