    Tarentaise Vs Gelbvieh

You came close to re-inventing the Noble Line. Gelbvieh, Brahman, something else beef maybe it was Angus?? Never understood why those didn't take off. Their standards for culling were very strict and they used good seedstock of all the founding breeds. Gelbvieh is winning in Tarentaise vs...

    Murray Grey bull calf

A nice hindquarter especially for his age. Wish his sheath was tighter but he's definitely worth keeping a bull and letting him mature some more. I think MGs would be a lot more popular today if their association hadn't splintered off. Took an already small association and made it into 2 or...

    Pick Him apart!

He's got an ugly mug, but I like how he's built. Hope you get some nice calves from him.

    Please critique this bull

The photos were not good, may have made him look worse than he really is. The sire of the bull looked pretty good, even though that photo left a lot to be desired also. Take a knee or squat when you shoot him. Gizmom's bull photos flattered the bulls, note the lower perspective and the angles...

What to expect from a breed association?

Finally remembered it - Canadian Livestock Records Corporation http://www.clrc.ca I saw Canadian registration papers for several different breeds, all had the CLRC stamp on them. The individual breeds have their associations, but there seems to be some kind of centralized data processing up...

What to expect from a breed association?

Salers. The Canadian breed registries are all run thru the govt aren't they? All the Canadian reg papers I have seen all had the same logo and name on them, different breeds.

What to expect from a breed association?

The assn is only as good as the members. Do people step up and run for the BOD? What percentage of the membership shows up for the annual meeting or votes? Do people cherry pick for registration and never bother to report data on the rest? Complete contemporary groups are important for data...

    Assisted Calves

All the different breeds represented in this thread have an option for "easy pull" or "Slight Assistance" or whatever. Every registration application I have ever seen, from several different breeds, all had a similar list of options to choose from for calving ease. So your neighbor is being...

    Our new girl.

HD, glad you got a heifer out of your fancy black girl and all went well. REALLY glad to hear you don't have to take chemo, although surgery and radiation aren't any walk in the park either. Sorry about your cow. That had to just make you sick.

    Brahmousin question

Check out this link: http://bravadocattle.com/index.html Some of the Brahmousin breeders have evolved into this Bravado brand name for the cattle with a little different guidelines.

    Brahmousin question

Yes that breed should have caught on better than it did. They were an offshoot of the Limousin assn at first, but NALF never really promoted them and didn't include their data in the "real" herdbook data. They broke off to do their own thing but didn't have enough members and registrations to...

Pics 2014 bull calves & some girls

Good looking stock. Really like how you brought those bulls along, in good condition but not all fattened up like a steer. Especially liked the "silhouette shot" of your cow. She's a dandy.

For a terminal program, the Charolais or why not Limousin.

    Thoughts on our new bull

He looks like a good bull. If I had to pick at him, I would wish his hind legs were not quite so straight, and that he wasn't quite so conditioned. But overall a nice bull. And your heifer looks good, too.

something rewarding about watching your calf crop eat (pics)

They are very uniform, I didn't spot any dinks or monsters. You must be doing something right.
