    Fence Charger Not Working

Glad you found it and it was an easy fix. Murphy’s Law.

    Fence Charger Not Working

You’re gonna need a tester or either be wiling to touch it. Unhook the fence at the charger and make sure the box is working without the wire hooked up. After that it’s time to check all connections, corner insulators, and any other components. If that’s all good you will need to check...

    Building a lean to roof

I think you’ll be much more satisfied. 2x10s minimum.

    Building a lean to roof

2x8s will work for rain if you put them on at least a 3/12. But they will sag.

    Building a lean to roof

6 posts simplifies things. A double 2x10 band on the front and back, with the posts notched to accept the outside band, will carry to load. 2x8s would probably be sufficient but I tend to overframe, especially when I’m building pole barns or shelters. 2x12 rafters on 24”, 36”, or 48” will work...

    Building a lean to roof

If you just want (4) posts total then 2x8s will work for a little while BUT are not sufficient. I would recommend (4) 6x6 posts and either a doubled 2x12 band on front and back, with the outside band notched into the post, with 2x12 rafters on 24” centers (OR) LVL OR TJI bands and 2x12 rafters...

    More progress

Works that way here for the most part. Especially in regards to Ag producers of any form. But the first thing that happens here when cows get out is someone calls the sheriffs Dept. Used to be, that folks would just put em back in. Those days are just about over here. Everyone around here used...

    More progress

Interested in buying a “ranch” in Georgia beside me? That way I wouldn’t need my own corrals!

Best way to load wild cattle

Best way? Call someone else, grab a drink, and watch.

    butcher calf question

That’s what I figured. Wasn’t sure. Been fooling with cows all my life but never fed any to finish. Pa in law always did that but now he’s gone so I’m fixing to learn how to do it myself. He always mixed a 40% or so supplement with whole corn, which is close to the same as your ration. Worked...

    butcher calf question

40% supplement? Or 40% actual protein?

    Finally got a squeeze chute

Congratulations. I sure like mine. It’s a used Preifert with a dolly so I can move it from farm to farm. Used plain head gates for years. Makes you appreciate a squeeze.

    Gate latches

I use a chain and carabiner as well. I think some form of slide lock utilizing stout pipe with a chain as insurance would be better in high pressure situations. I need to learn to weld.

Guard rail or go bob fortress fence

Depends on how cheap guard rail is. I have one built with 3 pieces of guard rail. 100’ x 100’. Indestructible. But with 3 pieces and the top rail being 6’ high, the gaps in between will let a smaller calf escape and sometimes a cow will stick her head through. Cat get out but it’s rough on the...

    Cost of wood corral

I’ve got a working pen built out of guardrail. Very strong. Hard to climb in a hurry! But very strong. As for the heavy duty portable panels, I’m all about saving a dollar. I figured it 6 ways to Sunday and the portable panels were the cheapest option for me. I’ve got hundreds of welded wire...

    Cost of wood corral

Find you some heavy duty panels. The ones we are using now are first class. Never even had one bent and between my two neighbors and myself we run 350-400 head of momma cows through them at least twice a year. Easy to move. Heavy, but easy. $100/ea if you buy 25 at the time. I will try to find a...

    Why we do it.

Come clean Dave. You didn’t really get that from fooling with a cow now did ya? :lol2:

    Hallelujah to women in farming

I had to google it to. Not what I’ve always called them. I don’t see how they walk in em neither, but I sure like watching em when they do ;-)

    Cattle prices

For a dime? No. Not unless you have a bunch of them. At a dime, the only value you’re adding is to the buyers bank statement

    Cost of baling hay

I pay $20/roll, 4x6 rolls, net wrapped. Includes cutting, raking, and baling. With fertilizer and rent I average $50/roll for my hay. May fluctuate +/- $5/roll depending on certain weather factors, etc. But has been $45-$55/roll for the last 10 years.
