They must have the forum tapped because immediately after I posted they call and said he’s on the way. 🤣

    Cattle Hauling

I don't really have any experience with having cattle hauled here outside of locally but I have a bull coming from Florida, so around 12-13 hours. I guess in my mind I at first thought it would be a straight trip but then depending on time and if facilities were available they might 'lay over'...

    Replacement females???

They just take a loss out of the goodness of their heart so other people can be money ahead. 😆

    Replacement females???

You can't leave what is better out of the equation in my opinion. The difficulty for some is how do you put a price on what is better. It is obviously worth something. What good does it do me to buy heifers that are cheaper but are not as good? How much does that cheaper heifer go up in price...

    Replacement females???

I am switching to raising my own. I am tired of buying groups of cattle and weeding out bunch of them. My last straw was buying an expensive group of heifers advertised as fescue adapted, etc. from a big breeder and now needing to cull probably half of them. I did get some that were good and...

    I’m an idiot

Is this the young red and white bull that has damaged goods?

    Kicking myself…

So this chapter has ended. Lol. I hauled him to the sale Friday and he did not get sold as a breeder bull. Now what whoever bought him does with him is on them but I wasn’t selling him as a breeder because of the nursing still. On the second page of this thread I put a picture of him that in my...

    Hay Unrollers

Yes it is. It is very well built and I have no complaints with it.

    Hay Unrollers

I unroll in good and bad weather. In fact, I don’t take the tractor in the pastures in the winter anymore unless absolutely necessary. The UTV doesn’t tear them up and cause ruts.

    Hay Unrollers

They are absolutely worth it. I have a small herd and the beauty of a hay unroller is you can unroll half a bale and pick up the rest and unroll it the next day or unroll the entire thing.

I will do better next time. I think this bull is trying to identify as a cow and a calf..

    Kicking myself…

If you have seen my calving thread for this year you will remember my calves were tiny. Like between 40-50 pounds tiny. But I will say for tiny calves they are growing good.

    Kicking myself…

Pretty much my thoughts as well. Live and learn. My wife is doing good. She had to have them delivered early because she developed Preeclampsia. After the c-section they had to take her back for another procedure because she was hemorrhaging. It was scary for a minute there but all is good now.

    Kicking myself…

Trust me I would of but up until the other day I have been pretty much living at the hospital that is an hour away from home so I haven’t been able to. He will be gone very soon now that we’re home. Now if these twins would let me sleep…

    Kicking myself…

Exactly. (Definitely no butt). My main goal was to use a calving ease bull for these heifers and have no issues and that was accomplished. But, I bought him when he was 13 months old and ’thought’ maybe he would grow into something halfway decent, hence one of the reasons I started this thread...

    Kicking myself…

Well here we are 8-9 months later and I thought I would update this thread regarding this bull. Turns out, my feelings haven’t changed a bit other than I dislike (understatement of the year) him even more. I’m not even sure he would make a good steer. He grew since last fall but not really...

    Bull

Unless you want them covered quicker. I have my bull in year round but I still expect cows to breed in a short window and not all over the place. Cows that fall out of the window are hauled off.
