Angus Cow Family Pictures.. lots of pics

Haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd start with a huge one, ha! I was going through the pictures we took this year and updating our website, and I came across a bunch of cow family pictures and thought I'd share. First cow family "The Blackcaps" Matriarch: T E F Optima x J O Evolution...

    Red Angus AI Bull pick?

The CEM EPD is the probability of a 2 yr old daughter being able to calve unassisted. I guess I'm looking at the bull at the RAAA site, going back in his pedigree on both sides, and I'm thinking of the animal I've had out of him and the others I've seen in person sired by him and how they...

    Red Angus AI Bull pick?

We have a great Big Sky daughter (bought her mom as a bred cow), we've kept every calf from her so far and have not had to pull anything. Her own milk EPD is a 37, but her udder is in great shape as of now, and she weans some big calves. Granted, this is only one cow out of Big Sky, and we don't...

    Thoughts on this Angus bull

BRG - I know "pictures say a thousand words", but I don't think the picture is telling the whole story on his feet. Thanks for mentioning it though, I'll have to take a closer look at his toes when the mud freezes up again to be sure. I'm guessing he was just standing awkward on the frozen...

    Thoughts on this Angus bull

Thanks! I want to make sure there isn't any major holes in him I'm overlooking.

    HF Prowler 1473986 angus

From what I've heard about him from Angus and Simmental breeders, his calves are very stylish and 'showy' looking and a pretty complete package phenotypically. Supposedly, his calves grow well, despite what the EPDs say. Canadian animals that are dual registered with an American Association...

    Thoughts on this Angus bull

We're gearing up for sale season and have been snapping a few pics when the weather has been bearable. This is a pic of one yearling that we've had a lot of interest in. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on him. He's a Mytty In Focus x Cooley Menard 326S Numbers are: CED: 13 BW: -1.9 WW: 52...

Where do Tarentaise fit best in a 3X cross?

Most go to outfits that are using black Angus or Simmental bulls, and are keeping the heifers out of these F1 cows for replacements. We have had people in the past use Charolais bulls on them for a strictly terminal calf and were very happy with the outcome. I've seen them crossed with...

Where do Tarentaise fit best in a 3X cross?

These are all I have on this hard drive. All are out of Angus or Red Angus dams. These cows are F1 crosses, the calves are Red Angus sired.

    Pre-weaning pics

That first heifer calf is right at 2 months younger than the bull calf.

    Pre-weaning pics

I think he got the better genes from his mom, she's a soggy cow with a lot of bone for a RA.

    Pre-weaning pics

He's sired by Beckton Nebula L P093, who is a M045 son. His MGS is Brown Vacation.

    Pre-weaning pics

I'm not that good at doing any kind of photo work to make them look different than what they are. All I know how to do is fix the coloring/exposure on the picture, and I don't have photoshop. You have to keep in mind too, to get these pictures, I take 20-30 of each animal and select the best...

    Pre-weaning pics

Thanks for the comments! Here's a couple more... We weaned early due to the drought. The pastures dried out quick, and we had to start feeding hay over a month ago. But, even though we weaned a month earlier, our weight averages were only 20 lbs less than last year. This way, we figure...

    Pre-weaning pics

We weaned calves this past weekend, about a month earlier than normal. I snapped a couple of pictures before calves came out of the pasture. One last drink Two bred heifers that happened to be standing decent when checking

    winter feed

I think they need to add some more color to the northeastern NE, western IA area. Driving through there, there's a lot of dried up pasture and crops. We'll be weaning calves here shortly, and will begin feeding hay to the cows soon. Hay prices are soaring, and the 30 day outlook is hot and...

    Cherokee Canyon

Our experience was the calves were coarser made, tight in the heart, and broke behind the shoulder - I believe we only kept 1 bull and 1 heifer out of him. But... we have several females that trace back to him that are excellent cows.
