Sorry for you about losing the cows, but glad you had the lab work done and are taking steps to prevent problems in the future!

    Downed Steer....Nervous Coccidiosis? Polio?

Could there be a connection between the DDG and the onset of the neuro problems? I don't have a clue, but just a thought. Did the vet draw blood for CBC/Chem? Might that provide some information? (Re-read your post and now wonder if the vet saw the animal in person). Any chance you had a...

    Downed Steer....Nervous Coccidiosis? Polio?

I'd never heard of "nervous coccidiosis" before this. What are you treating the steer with? Found this on the polio; seems related to sulfur toxicity? http://vetmed.iastate.edu/diagnostic-la ... -can-be-ca Must have been terrible watching the other one struggle. Hope this one makes it...

    Vaccination gun

Thought this might be a good followup on the vaccination guns: http://www.cattlenetwork.com/e-newslett ... 68918.html

    Vaccination of Calves

I believe organic operations can vaccinate, but if they use antibiotics, the animal must be deemed not organic and shipped off early. Please don't quote me.

    Getting rid of warts

Though it may take several months, they usually they go away on their own. Some people use pliers to squish them and this triggers an immune response in the animal (they also feed what they trim off to the animal, but I don't think that does anything). If the warts are affecting the steers'...

Dead Cow found in field (Photo)

Yeah, well, I’m surprised this thread got so long too. As most of you know, I have a small herd of a registered niche breed, Dexters. I deal in individuals, not large numbers. They all have identities, to me if not to anyone else. This is an entirely opposite approach to what most of you do...

    yearling bull sick

You are absolutely right, colleen. My apologies for my insensitive response.

Dead Cow found in field (Photo)

Regardless of the cause of death, the manner in which the carcass has been handled is decidedly lacking. Your collective amusement at this offends me – both as a cattle owner and as a human being. I expected more from people who profess to care for and about their animals.

    yearling bull sick

Ha Ha, dun! Yup, that would surely account for the depression. Quick, time for the prozac saltlick!

    yearling bull sick

I would surely like to know what injection cleared up coccidiosis. I thought it needed to be treated with CORID.

No matter how it died, it's a shame that it hasn't been disposed of properly.

    Cow licking her belly

Not to freak you out or anything, but I have seen them do this prior to calving (but not 2 months before calving). Are you sure on the due date?

    Depressed bull??

Well, Colleen, I'm not a vet. But if he were my bull, I'd still get a 2nd opinion as soon as I could. I think that's really all I can say at this point, but I hope you'll let us know the outcome!

    Hooves

bradh81, I think you mean "founder?" Here's an article about hoof problems with cattle that includes founder (laminitis). If you google "founder in cattle," I'm sure you can find more information as well. http://cvm.msu.edu/alumni-friends/conti ... he-enemies

    Depressed bull??

Sounds to me like he's using every drug on his truck. By any chance, is this a small animal vet? I ask because hardly anyone gives an injection in the rump anymore, and I think Vetalog is used mostly on pets. Why are you only feeding him every other day instead of every day? Yes, as Hook...

    Depressed bull??

With all that appears to be going on with this bull, including the snake bite (venomous?), I would certainly have your vet -- or better yet a different vet (because it sounds to me as if the first vet doesn't give a horse's patootie) -- out to do a complete physical on this animal -- blood...

    calf diphtheria?

Given the two different issues (pneumonia symptoms on one and swelling on the jaw of the other), I'd get the vet out to look at the entire group in case you need to diagnose the onset of problems with all. I don't know if the two are related or not. You may have to isolate the sick ones.
