Keep in mind those are not the typical “ol’ bossy” in the back yard and living on grass. Those cows eat a huge amount of grain and roughage everyday usually in excess of 50 lbs of dry matter per day.

No that’s not necessary. To simplify it all Jeanne is pointing out is that the amount of whole corn that passed thru undigested is so minimal it’s not worth the extra expense to pay for cracked corn.

Give them all the hay they want and just treat them with a little corn whenever you feel like it.

I've got one cow just like this. The calf nurses the two back teats for a week or so then eventually gets to the front ones. She's never had mastitis.. just a large teat.

Market and feed prices affect it a lot. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy small calves and feed them up.........at other times it's cheaper to buy them heavier and unload quicker.

Doubt its the feed. Brewers grain has almost no starches and cheap sweet feed from Rural King probably has very little as well. IF it contains no cottonseed hulls for roughage you might consider changing to one.

Most Hi-Mag blocks and minerals use Mag-ox as the source for the magnesium but there is a chance they may have used magnesium sulfate which is Epsom salts. Surprised if they could consume enough at one time for it to scour them though but you never know. Otherwise shouldn't hurt a thing to leave...

Use to use Safeguard Drench on dairy cattle once a year with good results.
