Feeding recently purchased cattle

I was just wondering what anyone would feed cattle recently purchased when they are unsure what they were eating before purchase. Obviously they need good hay but I've noticed a lot of people feed straight corn or other grain and it really can give some of them the shyts. Just looking for people's opinions on what grain they would feed if any to recently purchased calves and then also cows or older animals.

I would feed a pelted feed or cubes.

When I buy calves I give them all the hay and/or grass they want, and start them gradually on grain or sack feed. Maybe start out with a pound or two per day and work up slowly.
