Just butchered a 4 year old. She had one kidney that appeared normal. The other was hard and misshaped. Looked a bit like a bunch of grapes. Any thoughts?
Normal cattle kidneys are lobulated(not 'kidney'-shaped)... bunch of grapes is a good description.
But...if hard/scarred/mineralized she may have survived a bout of infectious nephritis previously.
When I saw the title to this thread I thought how the heck do you know a cow only has one kidney. Then I saw who posted it and what you had done..... OK, one less kidney for supper.
