    Judging fertility in donors

I’ve briefly read/watched about hair whorls and endocrine system. However I have never heard of anyone talking about the stifle muscle relating to fertility. If you have any recommendations for reading material I’d be interested.

    Joplin Stockyards Commingling

I buy my seed stock brangus cows from a producer in the Joplin area. I’m not sure if he comingles his steer calves. He doesn’t sell his until they’re between 10-12 months old. I believe calves going through that barn get docked some if they aren’t slicked off.

    Yeast cultures and the benefits

I was asking what you meant by saying the deeper you get into angus the more fertile they get early.

    Yeast cultures and the benefits

Right but most people breed their heifers at 12-14 months. What’s the advantage of having a heifer cycle at 7 months versus 9 or 10 months?

    Yeast cultures and the benefits

How much you have to feed them has more to do with how big of a mature cow you want. What do you mean by angus being more fertile early?

    Yeast cultures and the benefits

Fertility has as much to do with the producer as it does the cow. The only way I see to have a truly fertile cow herd is by breeding it. It’s a whole lot harder to cull something for breeding back late when you have a dollar amount attached to it as opposed to something you raised.

    Should I buy ?

Just because something is registered it doesn’t necessarily make them any better then there commercial counter parts. If it were me I’d be looking at buying registered cattle for as close to commercial prices as you can find. It doesn’t hurt as much when you miss.

AI breeding in hot summer conditions

Is there a correlation with the most fertile ones cycling back the fastest post calving? Talking in number of days not necessarily the first one to calve being the first to cycle.

Is there anything that you notice is different data wise between your most fertile cows and an average cow in the herd?

    Help Pinkeye

https://www.farmprogress.com/story-cure-pinkeye-oxygen-therapy-14-105130 This had the best results for me when we had pink eye in the herd a few years ago. I bought the human grade hydrogen peroxide at a health shop.

    Judging fertility in donors

So you think in general if a cow is able to be flushed and produce a good amount of embryos that she would naturally be able to breed year after year? I’m not trying to beat a dead horse here. I’d just like to know for future reference.

    Judging fertility in donors

My question is how can you tell how fertile a donor cow is? If a cow is registered and her calves are recorded you have a fairly good idea of her fertility and production. With donors your not going to flush the ones that don’t produce enough embryos but if they aren’t weaning a calve every year...

    Judging fertility in donors

Would you prefer to buy a bull out of a 12 year old cow that’s never missed a calf or a donor cow? Let’s assume price, epds and phenotype are similar.

    2019-2020 Hay Pricing ?

Oh ok it’s a supplement that you feed in addition to hay because it cuts down how much hay they consume. I thought you might be feeding it instead of hay.
