Advice for involving horses in wedding

OK, I had my heart set on my fiance and I riding off after our wedding (instead of the normal get away "car") Anyway my dress is kind of "form fitted" and I'm not sure that I'm going to be able to get my leg up over the horse without hiking my dress way up (yikes!) So, what are my options...

    calf with watery eye

My calf is doing better and better...except one thing, his eye on one side is very watery. When I first got him (2 wks ago) both his eyes were a little watery. Now it seems like the one has virtually dryed up and the other is watering double-time. I got a bucket of warm water and wash cloth...

when to cut a bull calf

Hey guys, Well he seems to be doing pretty good. I am wondering if there is a wormer I should give him? Or shots? I don't know much about starting cows out...usually we buy feeder calves. I thought maybe the wormer or shots would give him an immunal boost or something. If these aren't...

when to cut a bull calf

I think he's improving. This morning when I went out to feed him he wasn't shaky like he has been. He is pretty eager to get up and has a good appetite. The reason I thought he was constipated is because I saw him straining so hard and it would almost come out, but then it would go back in...

when to cut a bull calf

We just got a bottle calf...when would be a good time to get him (neutered, castrated, cut...i dont know the differences between all these terms) and what would be the best way to do it? He's probably about a week old right now...so I want to make sure he is stabilized here first, but I don't...

    Pigs

I am thinking about getting one or two pigs to raise and slaughter. I'd probably get a pig that weighed around 30-40 lb to start... how long til butchering weight? What is the ideal butchering weight (approx)? At that weight, approx how many lbs of meat? I raised pigs in 4-h, they had...

how much to sell quarter of a cow?

Hi guys, We have a black angus cow that we're getting ready to butcher. We've been feeding him cattle feed from the co-op and hay. He is one year old now. I was wondering how much would you charge per pound to sell to co-workers, family, etc. We aren't looking to make a lot of a money, but...

Problems loading horse into two-horse trailer? LOOK HERE

I don't think it's a good idea to feed horses in trailers...in fact I tried that (per advice from this board). She choked. Later, the vet said never feed horses in trailers because they can't stretch their neck out enough to swallow right. All I know is that she wouldn't go in the trailer...

Problems loading horse into two-horse trailer? LOOK HERE

For the past couple of years, loading my SSH mare into a two-horse has been a nightmare. Anytime we go out trail riding I dread loading her up at the end. After working with her for only 20 minutes using this strategy she went right in without force! After that first time, she went in about...

i want to keep my horses

hey guys, i have four horses, and my dad pays for the hay/feed. we used to just have two horses, so the feed bill has gone up (considerably). I'm sure we are giving them more than they truly need and I was wondering where we can cut costs because he wants me to sell two of them. They go...

    cow hay

Hey guys We have a couple of feeder calves (probably about 500 lbs. each right now) I was wondering how much hay you think they should get a day? There's virtually no grazing right now with snow on the ground. I gave them a bale a couple of days a go and it's just now gone. Is one square...

    compressed feed tub???

There's a boarding place around here where we went to get hay today. The guy said something about some Mormon's make this feed tub that they feed all their horses and then you don't have to give them their protein or grain. It's 300 lbs and its in a green plastic tub. They lick it to get all...

    Thrush treatment

My SSH has the same problem. Our vet (very respected) reccommended that we get a ketchup squirter bottle and fill it with 1/10 bleach-water. He said pick her hooves out everyday and spray some of that in there. He didn't seem to think the other more expensive chemicals were worth using.

what kind of hay to feed?

That helps a lot! That's what we've been feeding...my worry is how much alfalfa is too much? I heard that it tears up their insides and makes them feisty if they aren't worked hard. And, like I said, we don't even do any riding in the winter. Hillary

what kind of hay to feed?

We fed that Sweet Feed from TSC for about 10 years...but that was just when we had our QH and donkeys. After we got the TW gelding and the Spotted Saddle mare we had the worst trouble with them choking on any kind of feed that contained pellets. Finally we decided to not feed any kind of feed...
