Craftsman 502 mower ?

Tried to use a mower the other day and it won't go into gear. It's an older Craftsman 38" with @18 HP brigs and stratton. Looked at the basics...belt, clutch shift lever but that stuff all looks good...drove it in the shed...anybody got any idea what's going on? Thanks.

Sounds like trans axle problems. If the rest of the mower is in good shape may consider getting a used axle for it.

These are new and they have sold a boat load. If you get one, drill a hole a little smaller than 1/4 in. toward the top away from everything, tap 1/4 in. and put a small grease zerk in and put about fifty pumps of grease in. Something else will let go of your mower before the trans axle next time a few years down the road.
