I've got 3 bred cows coming with their 2nd calf and 1 bred cow coming with her 3rd calf I need to sell because I'm losing my pasture. These are good young commercial cows that are proven. I live in middle Tn. and haven't kept up with bred cow prices the last tow months. My nephew wants to buy them and I want to be fari with him but not give them away because I can't afford to. Does $1750 each seem fair for my area? The cows are black and heavily Angus genetics. They're all 4-5 months bred.

Know nothing about your market but I'd start at $2000 and give myself room to come down a little bit but $1750 would be my bottom dollar.

I found this:

Nashville, TN Friday, Jun 06, 2014 USDA-TN Dept Ag Market News
Tennessee Bred & Pairs Replacement

6/5/14 Athens Replacement Sale
186 head

Replacement Cows:
4-6 years old 1100-1250 lbs 6-8 months bred 1500.00-1675.00/head
7-9 years old 1150-1350 lbs 5-7 months bred 1450.00-1825.00
5-7 years old 1050-1250 lbs 2-4 months bred 1075.00-1450.00

He could maybe get cheaper cows at auction but would they be better and knowing the background is worth something.

That sounds fair to me. Some good bred cows I've seen in our area are going between $1500-2000, so you're right in line with that.

Saw a pair of sorry looking excuse of a hereford 1st calf heifers with 6-8 week old hereford heifer calves at their sides
sell at a local sales barn last night. No scale, but I doubt cow and calf together weighed over 1000 lbs. $1475 a pair

I turned down offer of $1850 on a beef heifer due next week, a guy happened to see her and made the offer to come get her.
I thought it was a fair offer, but I had no interest in selling her.

Young pairs are bringing $2400 to $2600 here.
I gave 2150 to 2750 for pairs here this week. Sounds like a fair price to me.

Guy I bought all my cattle from was selling pairs for 1800 a piece but calf was only few weeks old.

tncattle.. if you are happy with getting that for them, then its fair. :)

Personally, I would shoot for a bit higher then take lower if offered. Makes people think they are getting a deal. :tiphat:

I bought this first calf pair in late June for $2000.00 Nice pair really gentle. Heifer calf was a couple days old. I had posted this picture before. I felt like it was a good buy at that time.
