Anyone had any experience with this grass - Persister Prairie Brome. I am looking for an alternative to annual ryegrass requiring annual reseeding and tillage for a stocker operation. On some of my pasture I have winter annuals and volunteer reseeding crabgrass every year. Slight tillage is needed from time to time to keep the crabgrass going. Fall tillage before winter annuals fits the bill pretty good. Stocker Brome and Matua is used in some place as an alternative to ryegrass and has a slight longer season and possible more tonnage. Persister is suppose to be more tolerant of cold and drought that the older varieties.
It seems I am a little south of the optimal climate for Persister but it reseeds well and with light tillage each year may come back. The seed is very expensive compared to ryegrass, so without persistence for several years or the effective reseeding it won't work.
Anyone tried something like this?
