4 Year old Simmental (out of my almost 16 year old granny cow) with her new bull calf. He just finished breakfast. AI bred 4 cows and 2 heifers. All settled on first service. I can't remember ever having 100% on first service. Used CIDR's to synch. All but one bred on Dec 24 and 25 on observed heats. One 3 year old cow did not show any standing heat and did not breed her. Gave a shot of Lut 11 days later and she did not show standing heat. Decided to try a CIDR again. Still no standing. Bred anyway on timed AI and she settled. Should have done timed AI on her the first time. She was the boss cow in the pasture she was in. Sometimes that affects the riding. Unfortunately, she aborted at 7 months and is no longer with us. One heifer calved 16 days early based on a 283 day chart. It was a tiny little calf, but healthy. Hate to see them less than 60 pounds.

two of my three Balgain of Wye Calves one bull and one heifer. they were born labor day weekend and so are about a month old. third calf was with his mother and these two were exploring...
The heifer is the seventh generation of calves from one of my original cows since 1987....

I like long lines going through generations!
My first cow was a 1991 model, bull calf pictured a few posts ago would be her great grand son.. This cow is her great great granddaughter... with her daughter from last year on the left and her steer this year on the right.. She's barely 1000 lbs, calf was in the 5wt group at the sale today.. I'm going to try and get some good condition on her for next calving season and I think she might make a whopper.. Looking forward to what the daughter can do too20200728_104102.jpg

Me and great great grandma, I think this would have been fall 1992?Josie 5.jpg

14 year old cow. Considered selling her when I weaned her last calf in May. Glad I kept her another year.

I got one same age and her calf is best and larger i got, I mean 50 lbs on all else. Cow is most fertile in my place — settles in record time way quicker than all others.

Nice grass too
Thanks. We were pretty wet in August and September was cool so the cool season grasses really jumped for us. We cut some hayfields we thought we weren't going to get another cutting from grass turned so nice. Moved some pairs into a new pasture recently and they were very happy to say the least. Patch on the bottom is another favorite Fall calf.

He's a survivior.... about 3 months old. Enjoying the last of my summer grasses. The other calf was killed by our donkey. So much for protecting the herd......Was good with the cows until the calf was born this summer. They (donkeys) became mean and nasty after the birth, so they are in an extra pasture until he is sold.
