    Braunvieh

We have two, both are kids scramble projects. One is fullblood. She is a great cow. Breeds easily (AI) and has had a calf regularly. She is 10 years old and still going strong. She has been bred to Angus (steer calves beefy and sell well, heifers sell very well) and her current calf is a...

What do you think she is.

Well, I have owned longhorn crosses and a pure longhorn. The cow's head does not look like a LH I vote for cow pollinator's suggestion.

    Please critique this bull

EPDs are an indication of what he might produce and are not a guarantee. When you are looking for a herd bull, the animal should be a good representative of his breed. You can't necessarily buy one that does not have the muscling and hope that he gets better or produces better than he looks...

    20 month old bull

Thank you. My husband managed a registered Hertford operation with over 300 mother cows. I did day work for the ranch. All cattle were checked daily and those who were to be AI'd were checked twice daily. I thought that she had a bigger operation the way she talks.

    Happy with this one...

She is a fancy heifer and I am looking forward to seeing pics of her growing and your son showing her. He did well in his choice. A win-win for sure!

Can using different breeds of bulls cause problems?

Andyva, are you talking about Charolais cattle? If so, you are incorrect. Charolais is a old breed dating back several hundred years. The only time the breed was mixed was when they left France, but the breeding was not random as you indicate. There are multiple European breeds that have other...

    another 20mth old bull

I never understood the reasoning of thinking that fighting bulls will breed more cattle. Our neighbor tried cowgirl8's type of management a several years ago (he is fairly new to cattle). Ended up with an injured bull and the other two fought so much, a bunch of cows did not get bred. Now he...

    20 month old bull

I wouldn't call him a mutant. A throwback maybe because of his color, but his growth would be normal for our all beef bred calves, even when the grass is short. However we have a small place compared to you and not as many cattle. I cull heavily because it costs less to raise a good one than...

    20 month old bull

I don't mean to be rude, but I think that you may be using the word "mutant" incorrectly. Are you saying that the "first mutant" weaned at 800 lbs? I don't understand what you mean by grew over 800 in 2011. I currently have a Charolais x Braunvieh bull who is 8 months old and weighs 800 lbs...

    Branding

M5, we used to have a freeze branding business. Your brand is really large. We had 3 inch and 4 inch numbers that were used on cattle. The 3 inch on calves. I had alphabets in 1 inch 2 inch and 3 inch. The largest brand that we did and have on our horses is 4 inch x 4 inch. A 4 inch or...

    cow hocked

I didn't read the entire thread. However, maybe the cow hocks come from his cows more so than the bulls. It takes a very prepotent bull to overrule a cow's defects. Very often people will breed a less than stellar cow to a good bull hoping that the bull will correct the cow's faults. It may in...

we have a couple of fall calves too - pics

Don't laugh. The dog is enormous. A Great Pyrenees who is 33 inches tall and the size of a small pony. The bull calf is about 2 weeks old and is a Charolais x Jersey cross. He is tall and long and was snow white when born. He will be delicious. The second calf is a Charolais x...

    Traditional Simmentals

Folks, Don't you know that cowgirl8 knows everything, and is better than everyone else? She is not a hobby rancher (I know that because she to posts from her tractor), shares a pic of almost every calf/cow/bull she owns, she has numerous herds of cattle of assorted breeds (more than anyone...
