This is what can happen to a Newbie

If I missed it I apologize , but what kind of milk replacer are you feeding your calves? I agree as well that the calf that will not drink and has had real milk. Sometimes no matter what you do they just will not drink that powered "crap" no matter how good it is.

    Calf emergency question

Call your vet to get an immediate course of action for your specific scenario and also get some metacam or another pain killer to give the little gal until she gets some protection on there or regrowth. It should grow back in time, but how well it does depends on how much damage was done to the...

    Need a waterer....recommendations..

We just ripped to of our poly ones out and replaced them with the metal ones, just have one ploy left in the bull pen but it is quite sheltered from the wind and has a floating heater built in it too. They use a little more power but at least when it is -40 I do not have to haul hot water from...

    Trouble makers

I think some of you have got it all wrong , she is the bully . I commented to a thread that I have never read before, because her drivel is exhausting, as I received a message to me regarding the leg back when calving and they knew I have had that happen a couple of times . I responded to the...

Bull has injured left hind leg, need help!

He probably won't get better if he has to still work , he most likely re injures it every time he breeds and puts full weight on that back end . If he is your only bull and he is still breeding your herd , you are limited with what you can do I guess . Try giving him an anti inflam every second...

Returning a heifer that won't breed?

Like has been said already talk to the breeder first, if you think you are getting the short end of the stick post again or better yet call the breed association. As registered breeders it is our responsibility when we sell breeding stock that that is exactly what they are , breeding stock ...

    Bull injury

My reading comprehension may be wrong as it has been a really long day, but this statement leads me to believe that they are not with any girls yet . However I think an anti inflam would definitely help him.

We vaccinate everything thing here every year and scour guard the cows too . banding new bull calves

Sometimes one just pops back up when you pull them down . Keep trying until you can get both or the other way that works well is sneak up on them when they are sleeping (as was said), the blood flow is more even and you can usually pop on the band before they know what is happening . When they...
