Was listening to radio today and they were talking about advertisements and how they are using two part advertisements leading up to the Super Bowl. They also mentioned the tremendous cost of these advertisements and I just can't help but wonder if all of these costs are worth the money. The advertising guru they were talking to seemed to think it was money well spent since - according to them - half of the people watching the Super Bowl only watched the game only to watch the commercials.

Maybe I'm advertising proof myself and can't say an advertisement has ever tempted me to buy something I already know about but I have been known to nibble when its something new to me that peaks my interest like some new technology or something.

Do advertisements sway you and make you buy things you would not otherwise buy?

Well, my interest is peaked now... what do you got? :D

I think marketing works. Get someone familiar with your name, attach some type of dialogue with your name and they will choose what they are or think they are familiar with. Food advertisements work a little on me. I don't think about out of the way places until I see a commercial, then if I'm hungry and away from home, I might be in trouble.

Other than food, I'm pretty sale proof. If I don't absolutely need something, I can fight an urge. Keeping a really low bank account balance helps.

It does not sway me. I'm a little unique. I lost all my "worldly possessions" in 2006. Since then I don't want to accumulate anything. I have brands I like, and until they let me down, I just stick with them. No amount of advertising would sway me from Diet Mt. Dew etc.

My wife is a little susceptible. She came in with some expensive looking contraption that makes hot chocolate, one cup at a time. The stove makes it too. I guess she seen one somewhere.

I'm pretty ad proof too. I'm pretty brand loyal too and unless I see something really interesting I'm not going to bite.

Do you believe their claim that half the people watching the Super Bowl only watch it for the advertisements? This seems like a bit of a stretch to me.

Some of our stores are carrying mt dew in the glass bottle. I been a fan mt dew for a long time but after I had one out of the bottle I don't care for plastic or can dews anymore.

Commercials are only there to get their name/brand publicity .

IMO, unsolicited information thrust upon us by those greedy and unscrupulous people known as advertisers has gotten way out of hand and those cretins should be tied to a tree and have the flesh eaten from their bodies by ravenous insects.

Pretty much my opinion too. I'm jsut glad I have a mute button on the remote. I either mute them or change stations. It's gotten to the point that about half the time you can;t tell what the ad is for until the end, and then you wonder what the ad had to do with the product

We buy very little to nothing that's named brand. I like the advertisements for the most part, I find it hard to believe people can think up some of that stuff. If you miss any they will be on you tube shortly after their played.

Wife records the TV programming football, movies, even Natgeo.
We fast forward through the commercials I can't remember the last one I watched.
About the only advertising I see is billboards as I don't listen to the radio anymore cause I can't stand the noise they call country.
If the radio is on it is a CD.

The higher the IQ the less adds work. Don't believe that look at who wins and why they win elections. The lower the IQ the more they fall for the ad.
I bet 50% is right, lots and lots of women just for the commercials.
I hate football and commercials so I don't watch any of it. Don't know who is playing either.

I haven't had a television for many, many years, so television advertising doesn't effect me in the least. I listen to the radio some, but change stations whenever ads start running. I read newspapers, but I simply ignore the advertising.

If I need a shirt, I go to a store that sells shirts. If I need a bolt, I go to a store that sells bolts. If I need a truck, I go to a store that sells trucks.

Pretty simple.

Advertisements on TV do not sway me. My biggest complaint about TV advertising is the content of the ads on daytime and early evening broadcasts. Young children who are not in bed yet do not need to be exposed to ads for Viagra,Cialis or women's sanitary products. At one time the word damn would be cut from a program. What ever happened to the censors in programming. It is a shame that the country and this industry has let its morals shrink to almost zero.

Notice the D word was censored on this forum but it is said all the time on TV. :bang:

Thought we were the only ones that did that. We seldom watch anything live just because of the commercials. Right now we're watching Revolution and Klondike but recording them and watching them later even tho the new season is running. I'm not an impulsive buyer period with the exception of food items I might see and decide to try.

We watched Klondike yesterday since the weather was so bad.
It was like Mom and I going to the movies as kids almost.
Read up on the actual people portrayed in the movie afterwords.

Don't ever ever ever go into HEB hungry. Go in for a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk and come out $100 short and a cart full of groceries....

Am I the only one who would like to get ahold of that scummy POS who is the spokesman for Vonnage and give him a haircut and a bath. He bothers me so much I feel like i can smell him thru the TV.

..............and don't get me started on Flo. She is Satan in a white pantsuit.
