Separating Young 6 weight Steers and Heifers?

My bulls were banded on Feb 20th. Three weeks later i put them back with the heifers.
Still a lot of riding and following around which is not good for weight gain, so i separated them again.
This complicates my forage rotation of course. Will they need to stay separated?

Steers will continue to try riding heifers until they are hamburger. Heifers will ride heifers until they are cows and then they will continue to ride cows is the cow is in her cycle. They are cows/heifers/bulls/steers. This is what they do. It is their instinct.

trying to get stockers to 800 asap. just don't like all the wasted time.
